What is the idea behind multple course modes?.

Course modes are different ways you can configure your course to allow students either to audit a course for free or to upgrade the course to be able to get a verified certificate.

Having multiple course modes, you can set up your courses to permit users either to take the course for free and then pay for a certificate or to pay from the begining to get a certificate
